The Thessaloniki State Orchestra is honored to announce the revival of the International Competition “Dimitri Mitropoulos” with the support of the Greek Ministry of Culture. The competition will take place in Thessaloniki from May 28 to May 31, 2024, in collaboration with the Thessaloniki Concert Hall Organization.
Established in 1996 with the Ministry of Culture’s support to commemorate the hundredth anniversary of the birth of the great Greek conductor, this internationally acclaimed institution has since showcased numerous distinguished conductors and composers from around the world.
The Jury Committee for the 17th edition of the competition comprises renowned conductors Thomas Sanderling, Miltos Logiadis, Michalis Oikonomou, Giorgos Vranos, Nayden Todorov, and Dian Chobanov.
Prizes of €14,000 (1st prize), €7,000 (2nd prize), and €3,000 (3rd prize) are announced. The 1st prize includes invitations to perform with the following orchestras:
- Thessaloniki State Orchestra
- National Symphony Orchestra of ERT
- Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra
- Plovdiv Opera Orchestra
Applications for participation will be accepted until April 15, 2024. The competition regulations and the participation form are posted on the competition’s website / QR code.
